The wheels come out. That is the difference between a skate shoe a child wears twice and one they wear to school: pull the wheels and you have an ordinary light-up sneaker, put them back and you have skates again. The LEDs recharge over USB. The upper is a breathable mesh rather than the stiff synthetic these usually come in, so they are wearable for a full day.
